Unlikely: ovarian cysts are very common. 3 cm or less is considered a normal functional follicular cyst related to normal ovulation cycles. A cyst greater than 5 cm in a premenopausal patient should be followed and managed by an OB GYN doctor. A pelvic ultrasound will show if the cyst is simple (no solid parts) or complex (internal solid components). Vast majority of ovarian cysts are benign.
