It's complicated: The bad strains of HPV used to kill millions of women yearly due to cancer of the cervix, and plenty of men with cancer of the penis. Today it's very manageable and you can expect only some modest inconvenience. Historically, the most brutal STD was syphilis before it was treatable. Gonorrhea still kills a few hundred people yearly.
