Local myalgia: Local muscle pain. Muscle co-contraction (i.e., muscle splinting) is a reflex protective response. Muscle co-contraction is characterized by local muscle soreness, restricted range of motion, pain that increases with movement. This is the underlying cause of headache. Once the elastics are loosened up the condition will improve.

Unusual...: ...but not unheard of. Try giving her 1 200mg Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) 12 hour before bed. If that doesn't help in 3-4 days, call your specialist Orthodontist to discuss alternatives.
