Tinea versicolor: Perhaps you're describing a very common condition that's more noticeable during summer when you get a tan. Check out http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/tinea-versicolor/basics/definition/con-20024674. There are many antifungals, mostly prescription but also OTC selenium sulfide shampoo is another option.
