Complicated: Hard to explain in limited space here. Depending on the depth and size of the cavity, the dentist may be able to fix it with a filling. If the cavity is close to or enters the pulp, root canal treatment will be necessary. If too much tooth is lost due to decay, the tooth will have to be extracted. Sometimes economics is a factor - much cheaper to extract a tooth than to do a root canal and crown.

Only DDS can tell: you a lot more about your health than simply the state of your mouth. A routine dental exam may reveal problems with your teeth, gums bones, heart, or digestion because certain warning signs live inside your mouth. See your dentist Monday.
