GERD: Reflux disease is a common cause and can be effectively, and usually permanently treated with a surgical fundoplication. Usually, this takes care of the stricture as well, off it is related to GERD. Ask you doctor if referral to an experienced laparoscopic surgeon is appropriate. Hope this helps!

Depends on the cause: You may not asked his doctor for more information , most commonly done for esophageal structure , narrowing , for spasm in upper or lower part of esophagus for diverticulum ( out pouching of mucus membrane ) some times for cancer etc. Talk to the doctor will explain to you ( need your husband permission for it )
