Hearing should: Most often hearing loss during an acute ear infection is due to fluid in the middle ear space . this usually resolves and hearing returns to normal after treatment. A follow up visit for an ear recheck and hearing screen is warranted

Odd statement: Middle ear infections are marked by fluid/puss accumulation within the middle ear space which usually drops hearing about 40 dB until the fluid is gone (4-6 wks +). Inner ear infections can produce profound hearing loss that may be permanent. You likely have a mild to moderate temporary loss that will return.
