Consult physician: If localized to anterior ribs usually costochondritis. Occurs on left side of breastbone, affects more than one rib, Worsens with deep breaths or coughing. Resolves on its own, although in some cases may last for several months or longer. Treatment focuses on pain relief perhaps with nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs.Can be related to injury, viral infection, strain, arthritis, rarely tumor.
