Periumbilical Pain: Abdominal pain in pediatrics is commonly caused by constipation, stomach infection (usually with diarrhea and/ or vomiting) or other infections (urinary tract infection, strep pharyngitis, pneumonia or viruses). Less commonly, it may indicate a surgical emergency. Usually a simple physical exam is adequate in distinguishing these causes. I'm sorry to hear that you had to go to ER. Hope it helped

Doctor can evaluate: Many things can cause stomach aches, including viral infections, bacterial infections, constipation, liver or gall bladder problems, stomach gastritis or excess acidity, appendicitis, playground injuries, swallowed "foreign" objects, kidney problems, medication effects, etc... A doctor's examination can help figure out the possible cause.
