Mittelschmerz: Ovulation pain is called mittelschmerz (mid month) pain and last anywhere from a few hours to 2-3 days and in many women alternates sides from month to month as women tend to ovulate on one side one month and the other the next. Though many women have a dominant ovary that ovulates more often.
