Urethritis? Herpes?: In males, the main cause of burning urination is urethritis (urethral infection), although the main symptom is discharge of pus or mucus. Urethritis is an STD: gonorrhea, chlamydia, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), or herpes. Doxy is usually effective, but depends on the cause. If burning is severe, maybe herpes. Return to the doc treating you to discuss test results and next steps. Good luck!
