Is this mucous in : The throat? White phlegm sounds harmless. Blood streaked phlegm needs more work up like a chest x-ray to check for serious lung condition. Try taking Robitussin-DM or Mucinex (guaifenesin) dm. Follow up with your dr for any concerns
