Ask your surgeon: most if not all my Acl patients do not get a Foley catheter and I allow them to keep their underware if they want. Surgery is typically about a hour or so. It is done under general anesthesia, nerve block, or spinal anesthesia. Not local anesthesia. You have to drill holes in the bones and local cannot get there.

Ask surgeon: This can vary among different surgeons and anesthesiologists. You should consult surgeon as far as use of regional or general anesthesia. Foley catheter is usually utilized if difficulty in voiding and sometimes routinely with surgery, Again ask doctor performing surgery.
