A member asked:

Would a ct scan show if a vp shunt needs adjustment?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Perhaps: A CT scan would show if ventricles are enlarged, and may suggest a VP shunt malfunction. One usually needs a comparison scan to determine whether the ventricles have gotten larger. A VP shunt malfunction can occur without the ventricles being enlarged. A shunt tap can be done to determine elevated pressure. However, this is an invasive procedure, and can subject the shunt to infection.
