Probably no cheating: Most HSV2 is caught from partners infected a long time, i.e. from some past relationship. And mostly from partners without symptoms, or minor symptoms not understood to be herpes. Your partner needs a blood test for HSV2, which probably will be positive. However, it's an STD, and you should still have a senstive conversation with him about possible new infection, i.e. sex with other partners.
