Only under: a physician's supervision. I would suggest non-narcotic medication and avoid Xanax (alprazolam) altogether.

Xanax (alprazolam): There really is no such thing as a "disease" of alcoholism, but alcohol misuse is a symptom reaction to something else. I always recommend that dealing with the original problem is critical. It can happen that people may symptom-substitute, so the Xanax (alprazolam) could be a problem. Please talk honestly with an expert on substance abuse-either a psychologist or psychiatrist.

No: You're young and already have had alcohol-caused liver disease. Avoid addictive substances/drug use. Exercise, meditate, limit caffeine, go to AA meetings and get a sponsor. Ask your pcp for referral to a therapist to work on relaxation techniques. Stay positive and think lifestyle change. Small changes over time add up.
