Goll Darn it.: When complaints of pain involve the middle three toes are made, conditions involving specific nerves connected with those toes need to be looked into. Often times pain will exist when walking and even more with certain shoes. There could also be involvement with the bones in the area such as a stress fracture. Either way, the problem would best be treated by a specialist who treats foot problems

Seek examination: Your symptoms are consistent with a number of possibilities ranging from an extensor tendonitis to a nerve entraptment or possible injury. It would be best to seek a physical examination from your podiatrist or foot-and-ankle orthopedist to determine the cause. In the meantime, it would be best to rest, ice the area, provide compression and elevate if needbe.

NEUROMA: It could be several things, but my first choice is what's called a "neuroma"; irritation to a nerve supplying two adjacent toes. The best way to diagnose a neuroma is through a complete history, and exam of your foot; the latter of course I cannot do. You should see a podiatrist in your area. Regards, Dr. Latva
