Over Use.: It would be great if all the pains we have could be directly linked to an obvious injury. The shooting pain in your toe is a warning that the area around the toe or the toe itself has been injured. It is easy to over use this area of the foot and not know it, at the time. As the damage increases, it hits a critical level and the pain begins. Motrin and rest may help. You may need to see a doctor.

Nerve: Entrapment/impingement. Can be localized like anterior tarsal tunnel syndrome or more proximally like a radiculopathy coming from the lower back.
