Archaic medicine: Carbamazepine is an anti=epileptic drug which was introduced to help trigeminal neuralgia in the 1970's, but newer drugs have less adverse effects and similar efficacy. Lamotrigine, oxcarbezine, divalproex sodium, topirimate, levetiracetam, could be viable alternatives.
