Prenatal and postnat: Congenital scoliosis occurs during embryonic and fetal development, sometimes genetic, sometimes not. Usually the cause is anomalous vertebrae, like hemivertebrae, or an open spinal defect,or a chondrodysplasia (hereditary abnormality of bone formation).. Postnatal scoliosis may be familial; if diagnosed early, severe problems requiring corrective spine surgery may be avoided.Spinal arthritis?
