Is it common after being diagnosed with pneumonia a week ago (tomorrow) to still have shortness of breath and the chest discomfort?

Yes: 1st did you finish antibiotics as directed by your diagnosing physician? 2nd were you prescribed appropriate antibiotic for your infection, as guided by sputum culture. 3rd did chest xray confirm no fluid (effusion) or consolidation? Pleura or lining of lung can be inflamed causing pain. But don't forget that pneumonia is a big deal so it can take time for lungs to recover full breathing ability.
