I donated blood three days ago. the area just above the point where the needle was inserted, is red and swollen. it is also sore. is this normal?

Should be OK but...: If it is particularly tender to touch or if there is a discharge from the site, a local infection may have occurred. Other potential causes may be a mild phlebitis from a small clot developing in the vein that was accessed. If this doesn't resolve for you in a week, I would have it evaluated by your physician.
