Genetic mutations: All cancers arise from accumulated genetic mutations in previously normal cells, and become more aggressive as they acquire still more. Anyone telling you otherwise is lying. Much of this is random and unavoidable; rarely one inherits the first mutation from a parent. One can avoid certain things that cause mutations; the worst of these is smoking.
