Shortness of breath: Emphysema causes shortness of breath that could cause you to need more medications to help you breath, and or oxygen. In the more severe stages hospital admissions are very common. Do yourself a favor and quit smoking now!

Emphysema : The elasticity of the lung is impaired in emphysema reducing the patient's ability to exhale resulting in wheezing and shortness of breath. Severe emphysema can also cause low oxygen levels, heart failure, and death.
