Neck strain: Cracking of the neck is like cracking of the knuckles from arthritis and/or strain on the ligaments and tendons as you move the joints.Get checked for other conditions like hypertension, carotid artery narrowing etc hope u feel better!

Family practice : You are probably developing arthritis of the spine. Degenerative disk disease causing strain on the muscles and ligaments that hold your vertebrae in place. They get sore causing limited rom. Physical therapy is helpful.
