Nail ridges: usually indicate old injury or infection.

Need to make : Sure no infection is present. If there is swelling other possibilities include a seronegative arthropathy or rheumatoid disease, a contusion or gout.

Longer Toes.: Toe injuries do not have to be severe in nature. That would be too easy. Many times the injury to the toe is less intense but longer in duration. Since your nail is already growing out in ridges, then the toe has been affected for some time now. It is not unusual for the middle or third toe to be longer than the others and the extra length puts more retrograde force on the root, thus nail ridges.
