Is it therapeutic and ok to receive a hug from a therapist ?

Depends: This is controversial. It partly depends on the nature of the therapeutic approach of your therapist. You and your therapist can decide if it facilitates or distracts from the rest of the therapy, and the two of you can discuss the issues. In my practice: bad idea usually, but sometimes a good idea.

Boundaries: Psychotherapy is emotional enough without physical contact between patient and therapist. Boundaries are important, protect the therapy relationship and should be maintained. Better to talk about feelings, wanting to touch or hug but not acting out on the impulse to do so. This view reflects my training and experience. Hope it helps.
