Get evaluated: Although patients are often embarrased about discharges, don't be. We see these problems quite often. The colon lining cells make mucus normally. This serves as a lubricant for passage of feces. Patients with irritable bowel syndrome often produce increased mucus which can be visible on the surface of the stool or free in the toilet bowl.
