My father is itching to the point of him going crazy. he has only one kidney due to cancer in the other kidney 30+years ago. can plavix (clopidogrel) be the cause?

A possibility: Back-up of waste products with kidney insufficiency can be a cause of severe pruritis. Plavix (clopidogrel) can cause itching, but if this was previously tolerated, then I would suspect kidney dysfunction first. Need an urgent evaluation (call the doctor tomorrow or visit the ER)

Plavix (clopidogrel) Adverse Rxns: According to the package insert for Plavix (clopidogrel) made by Bristol-Meyers-Squibb, Adverse Reactions Section 6.2 Post Marketing Experience, page 9, under skin and subcutaneous disorders, some patients taking Plavix (clopidogrel) have reported generalized pruritus (itching). See your doctor for more information and what to do next.

Itching : Plavix (clopidogrel) is not know to cause itching. He has Chronic kidney disease and should gets his labs checked, very high phosphorus can cause severe itching. Also all meds To be looked at. Skin infections skin allergy all can itching. Best to see a dermatologist. Best of luck
