Ok: PPIs on gastric emptying of solid meals is consistent, but liquids is inconsistent. Mechanisms are hypothetic. Gastric emptying of solids is by peptic hydrolysis is impaired. Of liquids depends on volume and energy density of intragastric contents. PPIs variably modify the volume and the energy density by reducing gastric fluid secretion - hypergastrinemia. may be imp. in dyspepsia,GERD& DM.

Theoretical: We do not understand the exact cause of this slowing but there are some theories that are possible For solid foods the hydrochloric acid (HCL) speeds up food breakdown and passage and the acid is blocked with PPIs. For liquids passage depends upon fluid volume iin the stomach and PPIs may slow fluid secretion in the stomach as well.
