Several reasons why: Continued infection is at the top of the list. Nutritional issues impair healing as well. Diabetes, can complicate wound healing and cause nonhealing surgical wounds. Proper wound care is an important factor in the treatment of nonhealing surgical wounds and should be performed religiously. Debridement may help. Possibly an antibiotic change. Hyperbaric oxygen helps in some instances as well.
