Sunburn or arthritis: Are you sure that it is a sunburn? Knee skin that is burned will still permit walking. Have your OB MD evaluate your knees to determine if there is something else going on such as arthritis or an auto immune disorder. It is hard to know how to treat this problem until the actual problem is confirmed.
