Bulging disc: A diffuse disc bulge means that there is no focal herniation, but in general the entire disc from side to side is bulging posteriorly toward the spinal canal or nerves. Significant spinal canal compromise means that there is significant narrowing of the canal where the nerves run down through the lower back into the legs. This can be very symptomatic, and require treatment.
