Suspected Coxsackie: This virus is associated with the blisters you have described which are very painful. Eating solid foods is uncomfortable, so I would make sure he is drinking plenty of fluids. The blisters resolve in 3-10 days depending on severity. Other symptoms include high fever up to 5 days, non-painful blisters on palms/soles, and diarrhea. Ibuprofen can help relieve the pain and fever.

Yes, advice.: It sounds like your son has Herpes Simplex virus (cold sores) in his mouth. Antiviral medication can hasten healing but this little guy needs more than that. Because he's not eating much, he could get dehydrated and malnourished. Please take him to your pediatrician promptly for evaluation & treatment. Wishing you the best from across The Pond.
