I am allergic to all mycin drugs. is it safe for me to get the shingles vaccine?

Depends: A life threatening reaction (difficulty breathing, throat swelling, etc.) with neomycin is listed as a contraindication for use. Those having minor events like a mild rash would be fine. Confer with your doctor and provide this information along with a list of any medications/ supplements you take before deciding.

Need allergy info: Shingles vaccine is not recommended for individuals allergic to neomycin antibiotic. There are different forms of allergy, both contact allergy which usually causes a rash vs an IgE allergy which could cause anaphylaxis. Also, sometimes one is said to be allergic, but has more of an intolerance reaction than true allergy. This is one to discuss with your personal doctor who knows your history.
