Probably OK.: The tongue, like any muscle, can be strained. Pain under the tongue or jaw may be from a blocked salivary gland, or a swollen lymph node. Get checked out if your symptoms continue.

I think it's called the soft pallet. The skin flaps that attach to the tongue, when you stick your tongue out it moves too. Can you strain that when you cough? I was eating and started coughing and now I have a small bump in this area?
