My opinion: Since where I practice, marijuana is fully legal, but not fully clear as to the extent of value in epilepsy, and unlikely to be an effective controlling agent. So, continue anti-epileptic agents. The medical marijuana could be used under supervision of a specialized doctor but there are many standard drugs also, such as clonazepam or Xanax (alprazolam).

Caution: As a scientist, I'm waiting for clear, scientific proof that marijuana derivatives are helpful in seizures/epilepsy. So far, I haven't seen competent, large studies. Perhaps cannabediol will prove helpful for something...we'll see. It IS clear that chronic marijuana use slows down cognition. Personally, I need every bit of speed my brain can muster! She should explore other means of "relaxing"

Alternatives: Before turning to marijuana, the latest of what may turn out to be a fad approach to anxiety, have a meeting with your mom speak to her prescriber about anti anxiety medication, compatible with her anti seizure medication.
