How are strep throat and losing your voice distinguished from each other?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Location/germ: Losing your voice involves swelling of the vocal cords which is common to some viral illnesses and overuse. Strep throat is caused by a bacteria and typically involves all the rear aspects of the throat from the soft palate, tonsils & surrounding tissues but usually leaves the vocal cords alone.
