Ritalin (methylphenidate): The short acting ritalin (methylphenidate) acts fast (within a couple of hours), however, for your age, 10 mg is probably too small of a dose. I would increase the dose in increments of 10 mg up to a maximum of 60 mag per day. You may get a different point of view from other physicians with a different experience with ritalin (methylphenidate), please refer to these answers too

Dose needs adjusting: If you are going to take a medication over an 8 hour period, you should consider an extended release form of methylphenidate (Ritalin), such as Concerta. The dose is too low for you since you are not feeling a positive effect. Speak to your prescriber about a higher total daily dose, starting at 36 mg once per day. If your prescriber is not comfortable, consult a neurologist with experience.
