Has the treatment of diabetes changed over the years?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dramatically : The treatment options of diabetes have changed dramatically in the us. Metformin was approved for use in the mid 1990's and since then 9 more classes of diabetes medications have been added as treatment options including a new class just approved in 4/2013. Prior to metformin we had just Insulin and one class of oral medication (sulfonylureas). Many new insulins have been added since then as well.
