Unlikely, HCl acid: secreted by stomach has no digestive affect, it makes it difficult for ingested micro-organisms to function or stay alive. The amount of HCl acid secreted can drive stomach liquid from pH=7 to pH=1, a million fold increase in proton concentration. Suppressing stomach acid secretion makes us potentially more vulnerable to harmful microorganisms. Yet most people tolerate Nexium (esomeprazole) 1,000 fold ? acid.
