Slow stomach?: Gastroparesis means a stomach ('gastro") that's slow to empty ("paresis")--seen in diabetics, with ischemia, pancreatic cancer, after viral infection, post-surgery, with stomach pacemaker problems (yes, the stomach has a pacemaker!), & in systemic illness. The stomach normally empties liquids in 1-2 hours, solids 4-6 hours after meals. A gastric emptying scan measures stomach transit of test meal.
