Depends: many people have gallbladder stones but no symptoms. If your husband is without symptoms, no need for surgery at this time. Best to discuss this with your doctor. If he has had problems with his gallbladder in the past due to the stones, then best remove the gallbladder. Hope this was helpful.. Best of luck. Dr. R

Maybe: If your husband is healthy and has symptoms, or has no symptoms but also has medical conditions that may preclude a normal presentation of gall stone problems, surgery is the best option. If he is very ill, or has no symptoms and no other indications, watchful waiting me be okay. This is decision that requires additional information, so discuss this with his doctor and a general surgeon.

Under a number of...: scenarios yes. I'm not a surgeon but refer patients to surgeons. Some clear indications that surgery is best: -persistent colicky pain &/or or other bothersome symptoms (vomiting) in repeated episodes;a high severity or prolonged duration, certainly intractable/unable to be relieved- surrounding organ dysfunction or inflammation due to the gallstones; -if the stones are particularly large
