What do you advise if i have chronic cholecystis recently and am scheduled for surgery soon. one of my gallbladder stone is 3 cm, is it unusual for stones to be that big ?

No, not really: Sounds like you do need the operation. Gallstones can be tiny or even bigger than 3cm. Actually, the tiny ones are more dangerous because they can pass out of the gallbladder into the common bile duct and cause jaundice. Gallbladder removal used to require a big operation with a long scar. Now, most are done laparoscopically which is simple and safe and you are home in a day. Peter wilk, md.
