A member asked:

What is a prominent thyroid and how harmful is it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A review: The thyroid can be enlarged for many reasons. There was a time in the midwest when enlarged thyroid was common. A condition called goiter. This was related to deficiency of iodone in the food. So it was put into table salt and the problem went away. As the thyroid enlarges it can obstruct the airway, cause pain and metabolic disturbances.
