A member asked:

Is it normal that gallbladder is not fully inflated when the stomach is empty? suspect damage to the duct and gallbladder fluid may be leaking.

No damage: The gall bladder is a reservoir for bile produced in the liver. It does not prevent bile from continuing to pass via the common duct to the small bowel. It functions to aid digestion when food enters the small bowel. The chemical cholecystekinin is released , stimulating the digestion of fat and protein. Cholecystokinin, is synthesized by I-cells in the mucosa of the small intestine and secreted in the duodenum, releasing digestive enzymes and bile from the pancreas and gallbladder. A damaged duct releasing bile into the peritoneum would result in an acute abdomen.

Unclear: I'm not sure why you would suspect there was a problem with your bile duct, unless you've had a complication from gallbladder surgery. If that is the case, discuss with your surgeon. If you're concerned about your gallbladder, discuss with your primary care provider. Hope this helps!
