A member asked:

Might depression cause an increased appetite?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: People with depression can have different appetite changes.I have seen those that have lost weight and others who gain weight. Some people who eat more when they are depressed use food as a coping mechanism to help them feel better. It is best to identify the problem early and get proper treatment.Hypothyroidism can also mimic depression and cause weight gain.A simple blood test can rule this out.
