Hi! my 6 yr old was dx with hfm tonight. how long is she considered contagious? until 24hrs fever-free?

Depends: The ability to find active virus in the saliva and pass that way is thought to remain until they are fever free for at least a day.However, the live virus can be found in the stool for up to 6 wks. Routine hygienic care can avoid transmission from that route.
