Various causes: An abnormal discharge may indicate infection. If it's pure blood only, there is something wrong with the lining of the uterus (endometrium). Besides pregnancy, this could be dysfunctional bleeding (hormone imbalance), endometriosis is another cause of this kind of bleeding and associated with pain. See a gyn.
