R/O TONSILITIS: YES recurrent sore throats can cause tonsillitis AND IF SEVERE CAN CAUSE OBSTRUCTION OF your oral airway and induce sleep apnea. You need to be examined and have a throat culture. Potentially IV steroids and antibiotics . GET SEEN PROMPTLY AND HAVE ENT CONSULT

Tonsilitis: I do not think you need to go to the hospital but I suggest you see a physician as soon as possible

Tonsil Swelling: Hello, It sounds like you may have a tonsillitis. While tonsillar swelling causes difficulty breathing, it is also associated with pain and swallowing problems. A trip to the ER could provide you with a culture before medications are started. If it's viral, then maybe steroids may help to reduce the swelling with pain medication. If the testing suggests bacterial, then antibiotics would be needed.
